Existentialism Wild ( 2014 ) And Into The Wild - 1739 Words

Existentialism: Wild(2014) and Into the Wild(2007) For this paper, both movies used to explain Existentialism are adapted from real stories. The first film is Wild, starring Reese Witherspoon as Cheryl Strayed and the second is Into the Wild, starring Emile Hirsch as Christopher McCandless. In Sartre’s definition of existentialism, human existence precedes essence, therefore leading to meaning, purpose and identity. When Chris and Cheryl leave their family, friends and everything else they know from the society, they are attempting to find a meaning and purpose to their lives. Watching these two movies, I discovered that, both main characters need the Nature as a catalyst to regain their freedom, to find their true identity and to understand the meaning of their lives. To figure out the reason behind their existences, both decide to go a on a life changing adventure in the nature that might kill them or set them free forever. Doing a compare and contrast analysis of the two movies revealed that both answered the same question as to know if life is meaningful, but both characters seek different meanings. Into the Wild and Wild are looking at the meaning of life from two different dimensions. Chris is trying to understand the meaning of Human s’ life, whereas Cheryl looks for her individual life’s meaning. In Into the Wild, Christopher McCandless chooses what he wants to believe in life and how important that might be to him. Jackson was one of the most charismatic and influential Generals to have ever participated in the American Civil War. It was his work ethic, morality, and immense military expertise that gained him his infamous recognition and respect. Just a small overview of his life will clearly explain how Stonewall Jackson earned his merit as being one of the most outstanding Civil War generals that this country has ever seen. The development of the atomic bomb and chemical warfare forever changed the way people saw the world. It was a landmark in time for which there was no turning back. The constant balancing of the nuclear super powers kept the whole of humankind on the brink of atomic Armageddon. Fear of nuclear winter and the uncertainty of radiation created its own form of a cultural epidemic in the United States. During these tense times in human history officials made controversial decisions such as the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Dangerous biological experiments and bombs tests were carried out in the name of the greater good and national defense.
